In a significant move, a coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CNYL) has addressed a letter to President Bola Tinubu, calling for the appointment of a Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) on Youth Affairs.
The National Coordinator of the coalition, Comr Nehemiah Zaka, conveyed this message on behalf of the group in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja.
According to Comr Nehemiah Zaka, the coalition’s letter of appeal has already been dispatched to the President and carries the signatures of 42 Youth Organizations.
The coalition represents a diverse range of youth activists from various voluntary youth associations, including those with ethnic, socio-cultural, religious, political, and professional affiliations.
The coalition’s demands go beyond the appointment of an SSAP on Youth Affairs.
They also seek other appointments from among well-recognized and experienced youth development experts and professionals.
The coalition commended President Tinubu for the re-establishment of a dedicated Federal Ministry of Youth Development, as well as the appointment of young individuals to serve as cabinet members within his administration.
The coalition praised President Tinubu for his historic move in appointing both a Minister and a Minister of State for the Ministry, signaling a profound commitment to youth development.
They view these actions as a clear demonstration of the importance the President places on the nation’s youth and their development.
The appointment of a Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth Affairs and other political appointments from among the coalition members, as the coalition emphasises, would not only fulfill the aspirations of the youth constituency but also infuse valuable experience and expertise into the decision-making processes concerning youth development matters within the Tinubu administration.
In pursuit of their objectives, the coalition disclosed plans for strategic advocacy to ensure their voices are heard and their demands addressed.
They firmly believe that this endeavor is in the best interests of the nation and aligns with the promise of a participatory government as envisioned by President Tinubu.
