In a stunning turn of events, the Nasarawa State Election Petition Tribunal has overturned the initial election results, declaring David Ombugadu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the rightful winner of the Nasarawa State Governorship Election. This decision effectively removes incumbent Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from office.

The Tribunal, presided over by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi, delivered this groundbreaking ruling on Monday, sending shockwaves through the state’s political landscape.

This development comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lafia initially declared Abdullahi Sule as the victor of the governorship election in Nasarawa State. According to Prof Ishaya Tanko, the INEC returning officer, Sule had purportedly secured 347,209 votes, triumphing over his closest rival, David Ombugadu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 283,016 votes.

However, the Tribunal’s decision has now altered the course of Nasarawa’s political trajectory, raising questions about the integrity of the election process and the future direction of the state.

In a related development, the Tribunal earlier in the day dismissed a petition filed by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) challenging Governor Sule’s victory, citing a lack of merit.
